Viva Raceboard!Viva Raceboard!Minorca Sailing windsurfing instructors Jono Dunnett and Sebastià (Bià) Mercadal have just returned from Aland where they were representing Minorca as part of a four-strong team in the Island Games. Competing in the rejuvinated Raceboard class they led Minorca to a comprehensive win in the team and individual events.

Bia upwindBia upwindThe Aland archipelago provided light winds for most of the event where tactics and fitness played an important part in deciding the races. At the midway stage Bià held a slim advantage over Jono as both clawed out a lead over the rest of the fleet. The penultimate day's racing saw a little more wind and the results went Jono's way - providing him with a cushion that he was relieved to hold until the end of the event.

Jono downwindJono downwindThe new Starboard Phantom 380 raceboards and Tushingham 9.5 sails used at the event offer high performance and proved popular amongst the racers. This new style kit is comfortably railing upwind in a force 2 and has a planing threshold almost as low as Formula equipment - but without the physical battle. By happy coincidence Minorca Sailing is the ideal place to test this out for yourself, or receive some coaching from Jono, Bià and the other Minorca Sailing instructors to help you tap in to this performance.
